‘Quality Is Not Enough’: Luka Modric’s Frank Reply After Real Madrid’s Embarrassing Loss To AC Milan

The defending Champions League winners Real Madrid’s shocking form continued as the team was yet again embarrassed in front of their home crowd in a 3-1 defeat to AC Mila in their UEFA Champions League group stage fixture. 

Real Madrid’s chances of qualifying into the next round of Champions League took a major hit post their defeat to AC Milan and Real Madrid captain Luka Modric spoke out against the team’s recent performances by making an honest admission on their struggles. 

Luka Modric makes honest admission on Real Madrid’s struggles       

Real Madrid won La Liga and the Champions League last season but have been a shadow of themselves this season. They are already nine points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race and are languishing at 17th spot in the group stage of Champions League. 

Real Madrid have already lost three games this season while they only lost two last season. Given their woeful performances, Los Blancos skipper Luka Modric made an honest admission that the team’s quality is not enough to win matches but they need to work together as well. 

“Quality is not enough, we need to work more as a team – then it’s easier for us,” Luka Modric told UEFA TV post game. 

However, Luka Modric did send out a calming message saying that it’s not the first time he has faced this situation in his 12 year stint. Real Madrid have found themselves in this position.

“We need to stick together and try to correct what we are doing badly. I’ve been here 12 years and it’s not the first time I’ve seen this situation…I’m sure we’ll rise up again,” said Luka Modric.

Real Madrid’s shambolic defence  

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti admitted post the defeat against AC Milan that the biggest culprit behind the team’s struggles was its defence. He claimed that the team lacks solidity at the back.

In just 16 games this season, Real Madrid have conceded a total of 17 goals and the defence has imploded in their last two games as they’ve conceded 7 goals.

If Real Madrid want to maintain their successful run going this season then they need to sort out their defensive woes otherwise the season would be a loss.
