In a shocking turn of events, England’s premier Test Cricket pacer, James Anderson, has registered himself for the upcoming IPL Auctions for the 2025 season. After retiring from international cricket, Anderson took up a coaching role with the team, and he went on to register for the IPL Auction at a base price of ₹1.25 Crore. The Burnley-based pacer offered the reasons for signing up to be a participant in the mega IPL auction.

James Anderson Reveals His Intent Behind Registration For IPL Auction For 2025 Season 

During an appearance on the BBC Radio 4 Today podcast, James Anderson stated that he hopes to gain more experience and knowledge as a coach in addition to continuing to grow as a bowler by participating in the largest T20 league in the world, having ended his international career as the most successful fast bowler in Test cricket earlier this year.

“There is still definitely something in me that thinks like I can still play. I have never done the IPL; I have never experienced it and I think for a number of reasons I feel like I have more to give as a player.

“I have done a little bit of coaching since I have finished in the summer. I have been around the England team doing a bit of mentoring or whatever you like to call it. I just think opening my eyes to something like that and experiencing it, sort of might help me grow my knowledge of the game and help further down the line,” Anderson expressed.

With James Anderson in the IPL Auction, franchises are expected to go haywire on one of the most successful fast bowlers in Test Cricket. The 42-year-old is expected to bring in the veteran’s knowledge while possessing the energy to bowl full length in limited-over matches.

The English player last played a T20 game for his County side Lancashire in August 2014 while his last appearance in the format for England came in November 2009. Anderson’s comeback in T20Is at the IPL could be extremely beneficial for both the pacer and the competition.
