Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh’s Gannavaram Airport in Vijayawada is set to get the new integrated terminal building, being constructed at a cost of Rs 611 crore, by June 2025. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday has set the target for the officials to complete the new integrated terminal building at the airport by a given deadline. Naidu on Saturday reviewed the ongoing Rs 611 crore expansion project at his residence in Undavalli, attended by Union Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu.

The Chief Minister issued these guidelines during a review of the airport expansion works at his residence. During the review, Naidu emphasized that about 60% of the expansion work has been completed, and 52% of the Rs 85 crore Air Traffic Controller tower has been finished.

He also suggested that the airport’s design should reflect the culture of Andhra Pradesh and proposed Kuchipudi-themed designs for the terminal building. Additionally, Naidu mentioned plans to build five airstrips in various locations across the state.

The press release, which was issued after the review event, read, “He (CM) set June 2025 as the target for completing the Rs 611-crore new integrated terminal building.”

Officials informed the CM that nearly 60 percent of the expansion work has been completed until now while the Rs 85-crore air traffic controller (ATC) tower witnessed the completion of 52 percent works.

Delving on designs, Chandrababu Naidu insisted that the airport should reflect the culture of the southern state and called for Kuchipudi-themed designs for the terminal building.

Meanwhile, the CM told officials that the southern state is intending to build five airstrips at Mulapeta, Kuppam, Dagadarthi, Tadepalligudem and one more between Anantapur and Tadipatri.
