Team India’s missteps continued in the 2nd Test Match in Pune after the team’s vulnerability towards spin bowling was seen at large. The Rohit Sharma -led Men in Blue failed to deliver while coming in to bat, as they were dismissed at 159, failing to take the lead. The Blackcaps have been utterly dominant over India. Mitchell Santner uprooted India’s dominance and tossed it aside and the Men in Blue’s batting was criticized heavily. A former NZ cricketer also vented his frustration over India’s dismal batting showcase.

Simon Doull Exposes India Batters’ Quality Against Spin Bowling After Faltering vs NZ

Simon Doull, who is on commentary duties for the IND vs NZ Test series, has called out Team India’s poor batting output at the 1st and 2nd Test matches. During the India-New Zealand play at the MCA Stadium, Doull pointed out that India batters’ capacities against spin bowling is just a mere misconception, and that this is not the era where players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly or Rahul Dravid play in competitive action.

“There is a misconception that India are good at playing spin. They are like everyone else. Gone are the days of Sachin, Ganguly, or Dravid. Now, they are the same as everyone else. As soon as a good spinner comes in, they are in trouble. We saw that in the IPL , as soon as the ball started to spin, they were in trouble and started complaining,” Doull said on Sports18.

In the match, R Ashwin and Washington Sundar set off a massive collapse as the spin battery knocked out the New Zealand batters. Ash took three wickets and Sundar took seven to finish New Zealand’s innings on 259. When stumps were called on Day 1 of play, Team India was at 16/1. However, Day 2 brutally exposed India’s vulnerability to spin bowling. Despite decent performances from Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Men in Blue were dismissed for 156 runs. With New Zealand still leading, they hope to extend their lead and put pressure on the Indian cricket team, handing the hosts a rare home Test series defeat.
