His wife, Ritika, is reportedly due to give birth later this month, coinciding with the start of the series.

In Rohit Sharma’s absence, Jasprit Bumrah has been named vice-captain for the series. Bumrah, who has been a key figure in India’s bowling attack, will take charge of the team in Rohit’s absence. This adds an extra layer of intrigue to the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is already set to be a thrilling contest between two of the top cricketing nations.
