Champions Trophy 2025: The next edition of the ICC Champions Trophy is slowly but steadily snowballing into crisis. Amidst the growing uncertainty over whether India will send its team to Pakistan, former cricketer Tanveer Ahmed has lashed out at his fellow countrymen for what he sees as a lack of dignity in handling the situation.

The ICC Champions Trophy, a prestigious international cricket tournament, is set to be held in 2025, with Pakistan originally awarded the hosting rights. However, a major hurdle has emerged after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that India would not travel to Pakistan for the event due to security concerns. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has warned it could give up the tournament’s hosting rights altogether if India refuses to participate.

The BCCI, however, is reportedly open to holding its matches, if not the entire tournament, at a neutral venue. Talks are ongoing, and a final decision is expected in the coming weeks, but the standoff has already ignited intense debate both within the cricketing world and on social media.

Tanveer Ahmed asks his people to demand respect for themselves

Amidst this backdrop, former Pakistan cricketer Tanveer Ahmed took to social media to express his displeasure not at India’s stance, but at the behavior of his own countrymen. In a series of tweets, Tanveer Ahmed raised serious concerns over the treatment of Pakistani journalists and media personnel in the ongoing debate.

According to the former fast bowler, Pakistani news channels have repeatedly invited Indian journalists to discuss the ongoing dispute between the PCB and BCCI, yet not a single Indian outlet has extended the same invitation to a Pakistani journalist.

“Pak ind k issues par humarey pakistan k sab news channels par india ka journalist nazar aya mujhe ye koi bataye ga india news channels walon ney humarey kitney journalist apney shows main liye apni izzat karwana shekho” Tanveer Ahmed wrote on Twitter.

Translated, his tweet roughly reads, “On Pakistani channels, Indian journalists are always seen talking about the ongoing Champions Trophy issue. Can anyone tell me how many times Indian news channels have invited Pakistani journalists to their shows? Learn to demand respect for yourself.”

As for the Champions Trophy, the ongoing dispute has left many questioning whether Pakistan will be able to host the event at all. The BCCI’s refusal to send a team to Pakistan has created a significant impasse, with the PCB threatening to relinquish its rights to host the tournament if India does not participate. However, the BCCI is still pushing for a neutral venue, which could potentially resolve the issue of security concerns.
