With Shreyas Iyer having ben released by the side, KKR would be looking for a new captain for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. A report suggests that the Knight Riders may appoint Rinku as the captain. While that is far-fetched at the moment, it would be interesting to see if the franchise trusts the young left-hander to lead the side. The Knight Riders have retained Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Harshit Rana, and Ramandeep Singh ahead of the mega-auction.

Why Rinku?

Rinku has been a proven match-winner for the Knight Riders having scored 893 runs in 46 matches at a strike rate of 143. This further highlights his abilities with the bat. Also, one has to understand that the franchise shelled out a whopping Rs 13 cr for him to retain him – that could be an indicator. If Rinku is made the captain, the franchise not only saves a lot, but they can also chalk out a plan for the auction. The Knight Riders now have Rs 63 crore left in their purse after retaining him, which they could use to strengthen other areas of their team for the upcoming season. Also Rinku has been with the franchise for six years and has tasted success hence he understands the culture of the franchise. 

Rinku For Team India

In the shortest format, Rinku has been a regular over the past two seasons. In 28 T20Is and scored 499 runs at an average of nearly 50. He has come in at the end and played the role of the finisher to perfection on most occasions. Also, what makes him special is his ability to clear grounds.
