New Delhi: Jamia Islamia University is at the centre of a row in wake of complaints alleging religious conversions taking place at the campus. The matter was highlighted a couple of weeks ago when a student made shocking claims alleging that she was sexually molested, harassed and was being forced to convert her faith by the university administration.

The student also filed a complaint with the Delhi Police, following which a probe was initiated. The accusation sparked an outrage in the university with several groups of students coming out in support of the victim.

According to the student, she was coerced into converting her faith and was subjected to sexual molestation, including her number being circulated on social media, inappropriate touch, and obscene gestures. The student also alleged that she was socially boycotted by the administration and faced harassment on campus.

Now, speaking about the matter, Professor Nadeem Ahmad, a member of the fact-finding committee, in an exclusive conversation with Republic TV said that there are over 50 people who have come forward and demanded justice. Statements of around 27 people have been recorded in this matter.

The Jamia administration has shown a very lackadaisical approach in this matter and action must be taken against those who are behind it, Professor said.

Professor Ahmad further said that they have received complaints from faculty members and non-teaching staff from Hindu and Christian community that they are being discriminated at the campus.

“Promotions were not given to certain staff because of their religion and were also made to work extra,” Professor added.

“We have submitted our report to the administration,” he said adding some close ones were being supported and encouraged.

Complainants of religious conversion attacked in Jamia

According to the Republic TV sources, at least 2-3 victims of the alleged soft religious conversion at the Jamia Millia Islamia University campus have been attacked. Some unidentified men attacked victims after the incident came to limelight. They were threatened for life for revealing the truth.
