According to officials both were arrested with the 298 kg of dry cannabis valued at Rs 35 lakh.

Authorities arrested two individuals at Platform No. 1 of Agartala Railway Station, seizing 298 kg of dry cannabis concealed in 24 cartons, which contained a total of 282 packets.

The cannabis, with an estimated market value of Rs 35.76 lakh, was being transported on a pushcart. The two suspects, working as bedroll boys on the Deoghar Express, had planned to smuggle the drugs to Bihar.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP station.

“Investigations are ongoing to uncover any additional individuals involved in the operation, with further arrests expected. The suspects will be presented in court tomorrow, where police will seek custody for further questioning,” an official statement said.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Border Security Force (BSF), in collaboration with Tripura Police and forest officials, destroyed around 65,000 fully matured cannabis plants cultivated across 10 hectares in the Gilamura village forest area, located in the Sonamura police station jurisdiction of Sepahijala district.

Acting on specific intelligence about illegal ganja cultivation, BSF personnel carried out the operation by uprooting and burning the plants. The BSF, in coordination with its partner agencies, continues to make significant efforts to promote a drug-free society.
