New Delhi: Women employees of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) held a protest at the newly inaugurated ‘Sakhi Depot’ in Sarojini Nagar on Sunday, calling for equal pay, improved working conditions, and permanent job guarantees. The ‘Sakhi Depot,’ India’s first all-women-managed depot, had just been launched a day earlier to operate 70 buses, including 40 air-conditioned and 30 non-AC buses, across 17 routes in Delhi.

The employees raised concerns over low wages, long commutes for early shifts, and the lack of job security. Reports indicate that buses were temporarily prevented from leaving the depot until the authorities addressed their demands. Protesters called for fixed salaries and regularisation of their jobs.

In a show of solidarity, male DTC employees also joined the demonstration, expressing dissatisfaction over growing issues within the workforce. They gathered near the depot, echoing the call for fair wages and job security.

The protest drew participation from DTC employees across Delhi, with high-pitched slogans underscoring the urgency of their demands. The newly launched initiative, which aims to promote women’s empowerment in public transport, now faces challenges as employees seek swift action to address their grievances and ensure fair working conditions.
