Virat Kohli ’s mix-up propelled Rishabh Pant ’s run-out against New Zealand in the 2nd Test Day 3

Following a run-out on Day 3 of the second Test against New Zealand at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Saturday, October 26, team India’s wicket-keeper Pant was removed for a duck. Trying a fast single in the fourth innings, he discovered he was short of crease.

Pant came in to bat after Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismiss in the 22nd over. India had a strong beginning, but they had a little setback which made a collaboration rather important. He joined Virat Kohli at the crease while Ajaz Patel and Mitchell Santner were bowling really well.

Pant started out wobbly but saw through the remainder of Santner’s over after Jaiswal’s departure. Kohli hurriedly asked for a single after nudging a delivery from Ajaz Patel to point in the second ball of the 23rd over. Pant chose to go for it despite the narrow run and some uncertainty about his dashing between the wickets.

Pant kept on, trying to make it safely even though he could see the ball and fielder. But Santner picked quickly and threw precisely to wicket-keeper Tom Blundell, who caught the ball at the stumps. Pant unable establish his ground in time even if he dove totally.

Pant’s third duck in Test cricket and second run-out—the only other occurrence throughout the 2020 series against New Zealand—were distinguished by this dismissiveness.
