Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has thrown his support behind veteran batter Virat Kohli , who has been struggling with his form in recent months. Despite Kohli’s lean patch, Shastri believes that the 36-year-old will excel in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against Australia, where he has a remarkable record.

Ravi Shastri backs Virat Kohli to do well against Australia

Ravi Shastri, who has been a long-time supporter of Virat Kohli, stated that the right-hander will “get his juices going” in Australia, where he has averaged an impressive 54.0 in four tours. Shastri also noted that Kohli’s start to the Test series will be crucial, and he would like to see him firing on all cylinders again.

Ravi Shastri’s comments come at a time when Virat Kohli has been under pressure due to his recent form, with just two centuries and 11 half-centuries in his last 60 Test innings. However, Shastri’s backing will undoubtedly provide a boost to Kohli’s confidence as he prepares to take on Australia in the upcoming series.

“You mellow with age, don’t you? But I think at the start of the Test series, you might just see (Kohli) firing again. He needs to be, I’d like to see him (like that) again,” Shastri was quoted as saying by news.com.au.

“In the face, that’s Kohli. Come Australia, he’ll get his juices going. It’s (about) how he starts off, and for Australia, it’s with Steve Smith.”

It’s worth noting that Kohli has a strong record in Australia, and his performances in the previous tours have been impressive. With Shastri’s support and his own determination, Kohli will be looking to make a strong start to the series and silence his critics.

The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is scheduled to be played in Perth from November 22 onwards. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will miss out on the opening encounter and Jasprit Bumrah is expected to take his place as the captain. KL Rahul will most likely open the batting alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the absence of Rohit Sharma.
