Gautam Gambhir has come under fire for falling short of expectations during his coaching tenure. Despite having some success, Team India suffered some of their most significant losses, including an away series against Sri Lanka in ODIs and a historic Test series loss at home to New Zealand. As the investigation continues, former cricketer Sinon Doull has issued a stern remark about India’s head coach.
Simon Doull Predicts A Sad Ending Of Gautam Gambhir Tenure As Coach If Team India Loses BGT
While speaking on Sky Sports, Simon Doull, Michael Atherton, and Nasser Hussain were discussing a horde of topics, and they touched upon Gautam Gambhir’s coaching stint. Doull did not hold back as he believed that Gambhir’s stint with the team could be shorter than Greg Chappell’s run with the Men in Blue. He added that if Team India doesn’t get the results in Australia, his run as the team head coach may not last long.
“It could be a shorter tenure than Greg Chappell’s tenure in charge of India. We have all either play alongside him or sat with him, we know he can be that gruff type of character. Is it what India need at this moment? Well, they certainly feel they do. He has the history and the backing to be able to sit down with those players and talk to them about how to play the game and how Test cricket works.
“But it’s a tough ask, and its a huge series coming up. He’s never going to be friendly with the media, but if he embraced it a little more, he could end up having a bit of a cult following. But not sure he’s going down that road. And if he doesn’t get the results in Australia, or its a 4-1 or 5-0, I don’t know if his job continues,” Simon Doull stated.

The Border Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia would be Team India’s biggest challenge. After the shambolic loss at the hands of New Zealand at home, the Men in Blue need to recuperate and fix the wrongs. India is also fighting for a spot at the World Test Championship Final, and defeating the Aussies in BGT will help solidify their case for it.
Team India is all set to lock horns against Australia in the first test match, which is all set to happen in Perth at the Optus Stadium, starting November 22, 2024.
