Eden Gardens To Honor Legendary India Women’s Team Pacer Jhulan Goswami With A Dedicated Stand

For Team India’s women’s cricket team, pacer Jhulan Goswami is one of the most influential cricketers who has left an indelible remark. The cricketer who once led the India Women’s side holds records which remain intact even after her retirement. To commemorate her legacy in the game, the Eden Gardens will soon have a stand named after the iconic Indian women’s cricket team pacer.

Eden Gardens Stand To Be Named After Former India Pacer Jhulan Goswami

Team India pacer Jhulan Goswami will be receiving a huge honour at one of India’s most iconic cricket-playing venues, the Eden Gardens. The Cricket Association of Bengal have officially announced that the Indian bowling icon will soon have a stand named after her at the Kolkata Stadium.

As per the CAB, the stand that will be named after Jhulan Goswami will be officially unveiled when Team India plays an international match-up in the venue. The Indian Cricket Team will compete against England at the Eden Gardens on January 22nd, 2025, in a T20I match, and the stand will be unveiled at that time. Reports also added that the Block B gallery will be named after the former Team India women’s team skipper. The honour is immense, as she would be the first female cricketer to be honoured at the stadium. Other players and personalities who have a dedicated stand named after them at the Eden Gardens are former cricket player Pankaj Roy, former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly  and former BCCI presidents Biswanath Dutt and Jagmohan Dalmiya.

Also referred to as the Chakda Express, Jhulan Goswami is one of Team India’s most prolific female cricketers. She has the record for the most wickets in women’s ODI cricket with 255 dismissals and crossed 300 International wickets in 2018. For Team India, she has featured in 12 Tests, 204 ODIs and 68 T20Is. She is also the only bowler with 200+ wickets in women’s ODIs. Even after her retirement, Jhulan’s outstanding record is still reflected in her remarkable career.

The 41-year-old cricketer is currently the mentor and bowling coach for the Mumbai Indians , who won the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League [WPL]. She is also the mentor for the Bengal senior women’s side and has recently joined the Women’s Caribbean Premier League franchise Trinbago Knight Riders as the team’s mentor.
