Shimla: As the dry spell continues for more than two months in a row, Himachal Pradesh has recorded the driest November since 2016, the weather department said on Thursday.

The India Meteorological Department, Himachal Pradesh, said that the year 2024 is turning out to be mostly dry for the hilly state.

Himachal Records Driest November Since 2016

“Our records from 2016 show that none of the observatories reported normal rainfall during that November. This year is shaping up similarly, with the state remaining mostly dry. The upcoming forecast also indicates no significant rainfall over the next three to five days,” said Dr Srivastava, Head, IMD Himachal Pradesh was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The weather across Himachal Pradesh is expected to remain clear and sunny throughout the day, with temperatures dropping significantly after sunset.

Weaker Western Disturbance Resulting In Reduction of Rainfall In Himachal

“The western disturbances currently affecting Himachal Pradesh are quite feeble, and their impact is confined to select high-altitude regions. This explains why the state has experienced prolonged dryness. There are no signs of significant rainfall in the near future,” Srivastava said.

As the state prepares for more dry days, the IMD’s observations and forecasts highlight the crucial role of strong western disturbances in ending the current dry spell. Until then, Himachal Pradesh is likely to stay largely dry, with occasional fog and temperature variations signaling the shift into the colder months.

Over the last 20 days, temperatures in Shimla and other regions have fallen by up to 7 degrees Celsius. With winter setting in, further temperature declines are expected.
