India vs Australia 1st Test: The much anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia got underway with the first Test at Optus Stadium in Perth. As it turned out, controversy erupted in the first session of day 1 itself.

In a highly controversial decision, KL Rahul was given out by the TV Umpire after he was caught behind the wicket. However, controversy erupted after there was no conclusive evidence and KL Rahul was given out despite no conclusive evidence.

KL Rahul’s controversial dismissal

KL Rahul weathered the storm and was playing a highly disciplined innings despite wickets falling all around him in the morning session of the game. But that innings was cut short when KL Rahul was given out controversially by the umpire.

In the 23rd over of the game, Mitchell Starc bowled a fiery delivery and got the edge of KL Rahul. However, the on field umpire was not convinced and did not signal out. Australia reviewed the call and upon review KL Rahul was given out.

However, during the replays it was seen that KL Rahul also clipped his pads and there was nothing conclusive that suggested that the spike on ultra edge was caused by the ball hitting the bat and not the ball hitting the stumps. The third umpire did not check all the angles and despite no conclusive evidence decided to overturn the on field decision.

KL Rahul was left in disbelief after that the third umpire started to overturn the call. Moreover commentators, were also confused over how the third umpire gave KL Rahul out despite no evidence.

“We’re assuming (Snicko) may be the outside edge of the bat but that may not be the case,” said Mathew Hayden on the broadcast.

With KL Rahul’s wicket India’s batting woes worsened as the team lost four wickets heading into the lunch and completely got dominated by Australia in the morning session.
