Gary Kirsten’s tenure as Pakistan head coach seems to be coming to an end a day after Mohammed Rizwan was named as full-time captain. While it has not been made official as yet, but sources claim it will happen soon. Kirsten will not be travelling with the team for the away tours of Zimbabwe and Australia. As per a report on Cricbuzz, there is a difference of opinion between the coaching staff and the players and that is being cited as the major reason. Not just that, the coaching staff has been having differences with the Pakistan Cricket Board as well. According to the same report, Kirsten has requested the appointment of David Reid as High Performance coach, but this demand was not accepted. The Pakistan board apparently presented alternatives which did not align with Kirsten.

Kirsten, who took the charge of the Pakistan side in May has not had a lot of success with the side. Pakistan lost the bilateral series in England and then faced premature exit at the T20 World Cup . With Kirsten set to leave, the Pakistan side face a massive challenge of getting a coach in place ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy . Reports suggest that Jason Gillespie, who is the red-ball coach, could temporarily take over as the white-ball coach. According to the same report, former Pakistan cricketer and current national selector, Aaqib Javed, is being looked at as the frontrunner for replacing Kirsten.

An announcement in this regard is expected to happen soon.
