Bengaluru: Police have registered a case against a teacher from convent school in Jayanagar for allegedly breaking a 6-grade student’s tooth during class after the boy spilled some water on her cloths, on Thursday.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred around 12:30 pm when the Hindi teacher struck the 11-year-old boy on the face with a wooden stick and broke one of her tooth.
The boy and his classmates were playing with bottles of gum and sprinkling water on one another in the classroom. The teacher initially attempted to stop the mischief by threatening them with the stick, but the situation escalated later due to her mishandling the situation.
The victim’s father filed a police complaint, claiming that his son approached the teacher to report the behavior of his peers but was struck instead. He also accused the school administration of attempting to dissuade him from filing a complaint and offering a settlement.
Authorities have registered a case under the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 122(2) of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to voluntarily causing hurt. Police have confiscated the stick and the student’s broken tooth as evidence and summoned the teacher for questioning.
Meanwhile, the school management has lodged a counter-complaint, alleging that the boy’s father verbally abused the teacher after the incident and exaggerated the situation. The police have recorded this as a non-cognisable report.
The management also claims that the altercation stemmed partly from the father being asked to clear outstanding school fees.
