Ranchi: Taking a serious note of the complaints filed by the Congress and the JMM, who alleged that the Jharkhand BJP unit was involved in spreading a “false narrative”, the Election Commission of India (ECI), on Sunday, directed the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to immediately take down the said social media post from its social media platform. The ECI also directed the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Jharkhand to serve notice to the party seeking an explanation over the alleged violation of the poll code during the state assembly election.

According to the reports, the Election Commission of India on November 17 took a “serious note” of the complaints filed by Congress and JMM against the Jharkhand unit of BJP over their post on social media. The JMM and the Congress alleged that the opposition party in Jharkhand was spreading a “false narrative” against a religious minority and demanded the blocking of the party’s Facebook and X accounts.

Taking note of the complaint filed, the EC directed the Jharkhand CEO to immediately direct BJP Jharkhand to take down the said post from party social media platforms along with a notice to explain the alleged violation of provisions of MCC in the said post.

Not only this, the CEO has been directed to immediately take action in the matter and in coordination with designated authority in the state under section 79(3)(b) of the IT act, shall get the objectionable posts removed from social media platforms expeditiously.

The complaint, filed by Party General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh, accused the BJP of posting a video that spreads a “false narrative” against a religious community. Congress also sought an order for the removal of all “communal, divisive, and malicious” videos shared by the party on its social media platforms.
