Washington Sundar showcased how to make the most of an opportunity on Day 1 of the 2nd India vs New Zealand Test in Pune on Thursday. Replacing Kuldeep Yadav, the all-rounder promises to give a further edge in batting but it was his skill of bowling off-spin that made splashing waves against the Kiwis. Sundar rattled the NZ line-up after a quiet first spell and ended up picking his first five-wicket haul, thereby, registering his best figures of 7 wickets for 59 runs in 23.1 overs.

Washington Sundar Expresses Elation Post The End Of The Day

Returning to the Test circuit after three years and instantly rendering an impact by snaring seven wickets, that’s quite a comeback Washington Sundar has made. His inclusion did not amplify confidence among many experts and fans but the opinions had changed till dusk.

Expressing elation over his performance, the 25-year-old described the complete set-up, from the lead-up to the finish, as “pleasing.”

“Everything had happened today was pleasing, right from the start, getting to play this game, getting to make a comeback into the Test squad, a lot of things mean a lot to me and mean special. I don’t think I’ll ever forget this day, it is so special,” said Sundar post the end of the day’s play.

On Dream Delivery To Rachin Ravindra

Washington Sundar’s wicket fest started with the dream delivery that he bowled to get rid of Rachin Ravindra. Giving a breakdown of his wicket, Sundar stated that he aimed to hit the “right areas” and the result ensued.

Speaking about the Rachin Ravindra wicket, Sundar said, “It was a dream ball. I mean, I just wanted to hit the right areas, we knew there would be something to offer for the spinners. Things like that, when it happens, it means a lot. It was magical for sure.”

Sundar further stated that it was a “god’s plan” all along.

“Honestly, it’s all God’s plan. It’s all his plan. As I said, I just wanted to really focus on every ball and give my 100 per cent every ball, right from the start of the day,” he added.
