The Ballon d’Or 2024 ceremony was ravaged with controversy after Champions League holders Real Madrid opted to boycott the event after finding out their star player Vinicius Jr was snubbed for the prestigious award. It was instead Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri who bagged home the award for the best player in the world.

While, Real Madrid were angry and football fans remain divided over decision, Los Blancos star Jude Bellingham managed to achieve a remarkable English record at the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

Jude Bellingham also had a stellar first season with Real Madrid as he scored 23 goals and provided 13 assists to lead Real Madrid to a Champions League and La Liga double. Bellingham also led England to the finals of Euro 2024 where they lost to Spain 2-1.

Given his performances, Jude Bellingham was nominated for the Ballon d’Or and in the final classification he finished third behind Rodri and Vinicius Jr. In doing so, Jude Bellingham became the first English player in 20 years to finish on the Ballon d’Or podium since Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard in 2005.
