New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) has submitted a letter to the Election Commission (EC), urging it to censure and restrain Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for a “gross violation” of the Model Code of Conduct, citing a portion of his speech in Mumbai last week. In its written complaint, the BJP accused Gandhi of “falsely alleging that other states were stealing and snatching opportunities from Maharashtra .”

“We wish to bring to your notice gross violation, of MCC and other electoral and penal laws, by Shri Rahul Gandhi of the Indian National Congress, while the Model Code of Conduct enforced effective 15th October 2024 in the State of Maharashtra (sic),” the complaint read, while citing the objectionable comments.

The BJP has also urged the Election Commission to direct the police to file a case against Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

“We informed the poll panel that Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi spread falsehoods in Maharashtra, claiming that the BJP wants to crush the Constitution,” said Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, who led the BJP delegation that met with senior election officials.

This is a breaking story, more details awaited.
