New Delhi: Sanjeev Sanyal, member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India, shared an information which was unknown to masses that till 2020, working from home was technically illegal. Speaking at Republic TV’s India Economic Summit 2024, Sanjeev Sanyal explained how they got rid of this law following a proper research.
Addressing the summit, Sanjeev Sanyal said that there were some specific rules called – ‘Other Service Providers’ – which said that if one uses any other telecom service to work from a certain location, then they will have to take a permission from the specific ministry and also had to keep an EPABX machine ready and inform in detail how you would exactly use the telecom system. These were outdated laws but they were there.
Sharing the story further, Sanjeev Sanyal said that the lockdown was announced in March 2020, the telecom ministry comes up with a notification saying the OSP requirements would be held in an abeyance till December 2020 to allow people to work from home.
Now when I look at this notification, what it tells you that during normal times, those outdated laws were required, Sanjeev Sanyal said.
“So we dig deepen into the matter, did our research and with efforts, finally got rid of this law and if finally helped a lot of companies,” he said.
