With the deadline date nearing, RCB could spring a surprise and that could be to make Virat Kohli the captain for the upcoming season. With the IPL 2025 retention deadline on October 31, fans are eagerly awaiting news about which players will stay with their favorite teams. Reports were rife that RCB would be looking for a new captain. But, it would not have passed the wildest of dreams of the fans that Kohli could be back as the leader of the RCB side. Kohli stepped down as the RCB captain after the 2021 season. He led RCB from 2013 to 2021. Once he stepped down as the captain of the RCB team, Faf du Plessis was appointed as the new captain in 2022. Du Plessis guided the team to the playoffs twice in the last three seasons but he might be released considering his age.

A journalist has recently cautioned fans of not ruling out the possibility of Kohli returning as RCB captain for the upcoming season. The journo claims that could happen if the franchise fails to get Rishabh Pant or KL Rahul onboard. “Don’t Rule the possibility of Virat Kohli leading RCB again for 1 season PS – In the Absence of both KLR & RP,” Rohit Juglan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
