Facing Brett Lee used to be a daunting challenge for every batter in the world. However great and technically sound a batsman was, Lee had the express pace and sharp line to pierce through the defense of any batsman and destroy the stumps at will. Back in the day, his contests against Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag used to be eye-catching ones. Nevertheless, when asked about the challenge of bowling to Indian batters and who frustrated him the most, he surprisingly did not take the name of either Sehwag or Tendulkar nor any other great from India.

Brett Lee On The Struggle Of Facing Harbhajan Singh

Former Australian pacer, Brett Lee, stated that in a Team India filled with great Indian batters, it was a bowler who frustrated him the most with his bat. Harbhajan Singh had a knack for contributing to the scoreboard with some handy runs in the lower order and had played some match-winning stints in the process for India with the bat. His ability to compete with the bat irked even Brett Lee, who during a session with the LiSTNR podcast revealed the struggles of dismissing Singh.

“Harbhajan Singh. I hated bowling to him because he used to annoy the hell out of me, and I’ve told him this. He is an absolute legend of a bloke; I hope he hears this because – and he knows – he used to frustrate the sh** out of me when I bowled to him. He would sledge and he would hop in and going after me, ‘You’re quick’. I could never get him; I was always exhausted,” he said.

“When he came in to bat, it was at the wrong end of a spell. When I said, ‘Mate, you’re a bloody ripping bloke. Why don’t you show me how good you are or how nice you are? He goes, ‘because I like that edge. I want to come across as if I am arrogant, or a person who is chirping in.’ So he was giving it back to us what we gave to them. Lovely guy,” He added.
