Delhi Pollution: Smog Continues to Choke NCR, AQI Remains ‘Severe’

New Delhi: The National capital continues to grapple with smog as the Air Quality Index remains in ‘Severe’ category on Sunday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert on Sunday for the National Capital due to the deteriorating air quality. The maximum temperature today is expected to reach 29 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to drop to 15 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity fluctuated between 79 percent and 94 percent.

On Friday, the Delhi Traffic Police issued approximately 550 challans for violations of the ban on BS III petrol and BS IV diesel vehicles, under the third stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).  

The police also took action against vehicles without valid Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC), issuing fines to 4,855 offenders. This crackdown resulted in fines amounting to ₹4.85 crore on the same day. Motorists found without a valid PUCC face a fine of ₹10,000, with challans being processed through the courts.
