Hazaribagh: A Patna-bound bus overturned in Hazaribagh district in Jharkhand on Thursday, leaving as many as seven people dead and many injured. According the sources, the tragedy unfolded at Gorhar Police Station area, around 50 km away from district headquarters, a senior officer said.
The tragic incident occurred when the bus, with around 50 passengers onboard, overturned while it was taking a turn.
Sources revealed that the bus was plying to Kolkata from Patna. The accident is said to have taken place at around 6.30am. Soon after police received the information about the accident, a police team rushed to the spot to assist in rescue and relief operations.
“Seven deaths have been confirmed so far. Some more people may be trapped in the bus,” news agency PTI quoted Hazaribagh SP Arvind Kumar Singh as saying.
The identity of the deceased has not been established yet. Meanwhile, the locals have blamed the bus driver for negligence. A local, while speaking to PTI, said the driver lost control over the vehicle due to over speeding.
Police have launched an investigation into the accident. No arrests have been made yet. More details are awaited.
