Alka Lamba To Contest Against CM Atishi In Delhi Elections

New Delhi: The Congress Party on Friday fielded All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba from the Kalkaji constituency. Lamba, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, will face off against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, who represents AAP in the seat.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) confirmed the decision through a press release stating, “The Central Election Committee has approved the candidature of Alka Lamba as Congress candidate to contest the forthcoming general election to the Legislative Assembly of Delhi from 51 – Kalkaji constituency.”

Atishi became Delhi’s Chief Minister in September 2024 following the resignation of AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal . She has represented the Kalkaji seat since 2015, making her a key contender in this high-stakes race.

Who Is Alka Lamba? 

Lamba has also previously represented the Chandni Chowk constituency in Delhi as a legislator.

Alka Lamba a former AAP leader, she served as a member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly before resigning from the party in 2019. Lamba cited disrespect and internal issues within AAP as the reasons for her departure. 

She has also contested against Arvind Kejriwal in the past, although unsuccessfully.

Delhi Elections 

The Congress has so far announced 48 candidates. In addition to Alka Lamba in Kalkaji, other prominent candidates include Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, who will contest from Badli, and Sandeep Dikshit, the son of three-time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who has been fielded from the New Delhi constituency. 

The New Delhi seat is currently represented by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.

The Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) is still finalizing its list of candidates.
