Surat: Surat witnessed a shocking case of medical fraud as a group of individuals with fake qualifications opened a full-fledged hospital in the city’s Pandesara area. The Janseva Multispecialty Hospital was inaugurated with much fanfare, even listing high-ranking administrative and police officials as guests—without their knowledge or consent.

The hospital was shut down just a day after its inauguration following intervention by the Gujarat government, which acted swiftly to prevent any potential risks to patients from unqualified medical practitioners.

Unmasking the Fake Degrees

Preliminary investigations revealed that at least two of the five co-founders held fake degrees. One of them, who claimed to have an Ayurvedic medicine degree, has a history of violations under the Gujarat Medical Practitioners’ Act. Another co-founder, who professed to hold a degree in electro-homeopathy, also faces legal charges under the same act.

The credentials of the remaining co-founders are under scrutiny. One of them is reportedly facing multiple legal cases, including under the Prohibition Act, raising further doubts about their qualifications. In a bizarre attempt to gain credibility, the hospital’s inauguration pamphlet featured names of prominent officials, including Surat Municipal Commissioner and senior police officers. However, none of the officials were aware of the event and did not attend.

Authorities Seal Hospital

The hospital premises have been sealed, and authorities are continuing their investigation. Depending on the findings, further legal action will be taken against those involved in the scam. This incident has sparked concerns about the presence of unqualified practitioners in the healthcare sector, emphasizing the need for stricter regulatory measures to safeguard public health.
