Manipur Crisis: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has written a letter to President Droupadi Murmu , urging her to intervene immediately in the escalating crisis in Manipur , where violence and lawlessness have plagued the state for over 18 months. In his two-page letter, Kharge highlighted the “failure” of both the Manipur government and the central authorities to maintain peace and ensure the safety of the people.

Kharge expressed grave concern over the ongoing violence, which he claimed had claimed over 300 lives, including those of women, children, and even infants. The violence, he said, had displaced nearly a lakh of people, forcing them to live in relief camps under difficult conditions. “The agony of the people continues unabated,” Kharge wrote, stressing that the situation had become dire and beyond the control of the local government.

The Congress leader emphasized the constitutional duty of President Murmu to intervene in such situations, stating that it had become “constitutionally imperative” for her, as the custodian of the Indian Constitution, to ensure the protection of the lives and properties of citizens in Manipur. “I am confident that, through your intervention, the people of Manipur will again live peacefully in their homes in security with dignity,” Kharge added in his letter.

Kharge’s appeal comes at a time when tensions in the northeastern state remain high.
