Imphal: In fresh violence in Manipur on Saturday, a mob attacked Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s residence. Earlier, the protestors, protesting over the death of six people, attacked the residences of three state ministers and six MLAs. The violent protests have erupted in Manipur, after the discovery of bodies of abducted people in the Barak River, leading to an outrage in the area.

Protesters, on Saturday, stormed the homes of several government officials, including the Chief Minister’s son-in-law, and set their properties on fire. Security forces responded with tear gas to disperse the crowds.

Meanwhile, the government has imposed curfews and suspended internet services in as many as seven districts of Manipur to avoid the spread of any misinformation among the people. After the fresh violent incidents in parts of Manipur, the situation remains grim, with ethnic tensions between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities worsening the situation.

The government has declared a holiday for schools and colleges and has reintroduced the Armed Forces and Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in several police station areas. The violence has resulted in the displacement of many people and has caused concern among the locals. The recent discovery of the bodies and the escalating violence have created a tense situation in the region.

The clashes between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities have been ongoing since May 2023 and have resulted in the loss of over 200 lives.
