On the back of some majestic hitting from Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma in the 4th T20I between India and South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium, Team India modified the record books on many accounts. Both Samson and Varma completed their respective tons in the match, and went unbeaten- Samson (109*) and Varma (120*). The relentless hitting by the batters helped India post a ginormous 283/1 after 20 overs.

Records Galore At Bullring

Batting first Team India looked in an ominous touch from the outset. First Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma gave India the best possible start and after the departure of Abhishek, who departed after a quickfire 36 in just 18 balls, it was Tilak Varma, who went in and continued from where he left off in the 3rd T20I. It was raining sixes from both ends and in the process, many records were breached and broken.

This is the first match in the history of T20I cricket where two batsmen have completed tons in a single innings (record exclusive to full member nations). The duo now also hold the record for stitching the highest T20I partnership (210). Also, Sanju Samson has become the first Indian batter to complete three centuries in a year. Moreover, the amassed 283/1 is the highest T20I total a team has scored on foreign soil during a bilateral series. A total of 23 sixes were hit in the innings, which is the most struck in a single innings by any Indian team in T20Is.
