The Border Gavaskar Trophy series is approaching, and all eyes will be on Rishabh Pant this year. The wicketkeeper-batter’s performance has been outstanding, and he could benefit Team India when they face Australia. Fans expect Pant to maintain his form and repeat the Gabba heroics that propelled him to prominence. But what was more miraculous was Rishabh Pant’s return to cricket after suffering a horrific car accident, and former cricketer Ravi Shastri had serious doubts about his future before making a spectacular comeback.
Ravi Shastri believes Rishabh Pant’s Return To Cricket Was Nothing Less Than A ‘Miracle’
With the BGT series fast approaching, Ravi Shastri spoke of Rishabh Pant’s miraculous comeback to the game. The former cricketer revealed that he visited the stumper in the hospital and deemed his recovery from the car accident a ‘miracle’ as he was uncertain about the wicketkeeper-batter’s future.
“Honestly, if you had seen him you would not have given him a hope in hell to play cricket again. I will never forget it. He was in terrible shape. I went to see him in hospital a month after he was injured. He was battered and bruised, scarred all over. He had a massive operation and had stitches all over the place. From there to simply recover and play cricket was a miracle. To then go on and play in a World Cup-winning team and be a part of the Test team is a truly remarkable achievement.
“He returns to Australia for this tour in form, and a man Australia fears, an unthinkable prospect when he was bailed up in hospital unable to walk. When you speak to him now, the respect he has for the game is even more. He was nowhere. Suddenly, he is back, and he values that. But I have seen him work really, really hard over the past few months to get in to the shape he is to play Test cricket,” Ravi Shastri was quoted as saying by news.com.au.

In December 2022, Rishabh Pant was travelling from New Delhi to his hometown of Roorkee when he was involved in a terrible car accident. He might have passed away in the collision if it wasn’t for some strangers and his presence of mind, which led him to smash the windscreen to get out of the burning car.
Pant returned to red-ball cricket through the Duleep Trophy after making a comeback to white-ball cricket during the IPL 2024 season. He also played in India’s most recent home Test series against New Zealand and Bangladesh.
