Team India’s woeful performance against New Zealand in the entirety of the 3-match Test series, “calls for introspection”, according to India’s batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. The 0-3 whitewash is arguably one of the most excruciating defeats suffered by Indian cricket in its long illustrious history. As the magnitude of the loss is huge, the biggest of the stalwarts are also having a say on the drubbing and offering advice on what should be done next.

Sachin Tendulkar On Team India’s Hurtful Loss

Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar defined the loss against New Zealand as a “tough pill to swallow,” and urged the team to introspect where they have gone wrong. Expressing dismay in a brief post on X, the Master Blaster called for the team and management to figure out what led to this result. Was it “lack of preparation” or match practice or it was the “poor short selection” that cost India dearly, asks Tendulkar.

Tendulkar also pointed out the positives in the form of innings played by Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. The wicket-keeper batsman received special kudos for asserting his authority on a difficult surface to bat on.

As a cricket lover, who was an ambassador of fair play during his days as a player, Sachin Tendulkar did not take any credit away from New Zealand and congratulated the Kiwi team for showcasing brilliant cricket to extract a 3-0 win over India in India, which according to him “is as good a result as it can get.”

What’s Next For Team India?

The loss has pushed India back on the WTC points table, putting the WTC final aspirations in extreme jeopardy. Team India’s next assignment in Tests is the much-anticipated tour down under where Rohit Sharma ‘s men will square off against Australia to lay claim on the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The equation for India to reach the WTC final has become daunting yet it remains the same, win four more matches and cement a spot for the marquee encounter once again. But beating Australia in Australia that too not once but four times in their backyard would be a long shot.
