Multiple reports claim that Royal Challengers Bengaluru are going to make massive changes to the composition of their side on IPL 2025 Retention day. Strong rumours claim that Faf du Plessis would be released by the franchise and Virat Kohli would return as the captain of the side. One understands that age is not on Faf’s side and that would be looked at as a major reason behind his release. Du Plessis has been a steady captain, but RCB’s ongoing quest for the IPL title might require a different leadership style or approach. Kohli, who is arguably the best cricketer in today’s times, was chosen as RCB’s full-time captain in 2013, before giving up the role ahead of IPL 2022 to manage workload.

Why Kohli Returning as Captain Could Benefit RCB?

Kohli has the knowhow of the conditions at the M. Chinnaswamy and also he has enormous experience of playing the IPL. Kohli, who has been associated with the franchise since it’s inception, knows the culture and the ethics of the team – that helps. After having not won the elusive IPL title, Kohli would be hungrier than before to do well and that could benefit the team.

As a captain in the IPL for RCB, Kohli has led the team on 143 occasions. He has led the side to a win on 66 occasions, while ending up in the losing side 70 times.

It would be interesting to see the players RCB retain ahead of the mega auction.
