McLaren are in a heated championship battle currently with Red Bull for both the Drivers Championship and the Constructors Championship. Amidst the title battle, McLaren now lead against Red Bull and Ferrari in the Constructors Championship but McLaren’s driver Lando Norris has fallen behind to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in the Drivers Championship. As there are only three races left in the season, McLaren have been slammed by former Formula One driver Jacques Villeneuve for their mentality and how they are going about the Championship battle. 

Lando Norris now sits 62 points behind Max Verstappen in the Drivers Championship with three races left of the season. 

Jacques Villeneuve Slams McLaren Amidst Championship Battle 

While speaking to PlanetF1, the former World Champion questioned McLaren’s mentality and statements regarding the championship battle. This comes in after, McLaren’s Team Boss had given a statement to the media saying that McLaren were focusing on the Constructors Championship. Villeneuve found these statements weird and questioned the team’s mentality.

“McLaren said the weirdest thing after Brazil, and that was the team’s priority, which was not the Drivers’ Championship but the Constructors’ title. That is very odd. That’s what teams that don’t win say. Ok, the Constructors’ title brings you money. But nobody cares about the Constructors’,” said Villeneuve as he shared a piece of his mind against England. 

‘People Only Remember Who The World Champion Driver Was’- Jacques Villeneuve 

Jacques Villeneuve had more to say about McLaren as he further stated that the Constructors Championship is only good on paper and people only remember who the World Championship driver was.

“People only remember who the World Champion driver was and the team linked to that world champion. And ultimately in people’s minds, that’s the team that was world champion. The constructors is only good on paper and for the extra money, it brings to the team. That’s about it. Outside of the team itself nobody actually cares about it,” said Jacques Villeneuve as he slammed McLaren F1 team.
