India vs Australia 1st Test: Controversy erupted on Day 1 of Border Gavaskar Trophy when India took on Australia in the first match of the five match series at Optus Stadium in Perth.

In a highly controversial incident, Indian opener KL Rahul was given out by the umpire in the first innings despite lack of conclusive evidence. The decision has come under major scrutiny with fans alleging cheating. Former Indian opener slammed Cricket Australia’s umpires for not following protocol.

Former India opener slams third umpire

KL Rahul’s dismissal created major controversy as there was no conclusive evidence whether the ball hit the outside edge or did the bat clip the pad. Proper protocol was not followed as third umpire Richard Illingworth did not see any other angle. If there is lack of conclusive evidence then third umpire has to stick with the on field call, in such a case KL Rahul should’ve stayed not out. But that was not the case.

KL Rahul’s wicket caused major stir and former Indian opener turned cricket pundit Aakash Chopra took to X to share his dissatisfaction with the decision. Chopra pointed out that shadow of the ball was seen on bat, so it’s impossible for the ball to have nicked the outside edge.

Aakash Chopra further slammed the umpiring as he further wrote, “On-field umpire’s decision not-out. Was there conclusive evidence to overturn the decision? Bat hit the pad for sure…visible confirmation…then why not two spikes on the Ultra-Edge? Ridiculous umpiring from the box”.
