Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has expressed his concerns about the state of domestic cricket in India, warning that the current trends could hurt the team’s performance in the long run. Irfan Pathan’s comments came after India’s embarrassing 3-0 loss to New Zealand in the home Test series. He revealed that he had a conversation with his brother Yusuf Pathan, who pointed out that domestic cricket is suffering due to a lack of turning surfaces and the absence of top players.

“Had a solid conversation with @iamyusufpathan bhai yesterday. He made a valid point about domestic cricket – we’re either playing on grassy pitches or flat tracks, but rarely on turning surfaces anymore. Plus, top players aren’t playing domestic cricket. This could hurt us in the long run,” Irfan Pathan wrote on X.

New Zealand dominated the series, while India’s struggles continued, resulting in a humiliating 0-3 whitewash. The hosts’ batting woes were exemplified by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s subpar performances, managing a mere 184 runs combined across three Tests.

This disappointment led to India’s ousting from the top spot in the World Test Championship standings. Australia have replaced India at the top of the WTC points table.

India and Australia are slated to play a five-match Test series, starting November 22 in Perth. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is going to be a tough test for India and a crucial one since it will decide their fate in the current cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC).
