Good News: New High-Speed Expressway to Link Bengaluru and Mangaluru Soon

Bengaluru: In a major relief to commuters in Karnataka, a new high-speed expressway will soon take shape, connecting tech city Bengaluru and Mangaluru, as per media reports. The latest intra development project was announced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) which coud play a play a cruial role in making passengers travel smoother and convenient in the state.

This proposed expressway aims to boost connectivity between Karnataka’s southern and coastal regions, reducing travel time significantly for commuters.

Propsed Expressway to Enhance Connectivity

The ambitious road project will span approximately 335 km. It is expected to cut travel time between Bengaluru and Mangaluru by 3-4 hours, making it a game-changer for transportation in the state. Currently, the journey between these two cities is time-consuming, especially during the monsoon season when the existing route is prone to landslides and other disruptions.

New Bengaluru-Mangaluru Expressway Timeline

Earlier in July this year, the Highways ministry sought bids to finalise a consultant for a detailed project report (DPR). So far, the project has received nine bidders. As per government plans, the contractor will be given to a bidder next year, with the selected firm given 540 days to complete the DPR. Meanwhile, the construction of the project is slated to commence by 2028. The highly ambitious project will be a joint venture between Karnataka’s Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), focusing on alignment and land acquisition.

Enhanced Travel Infra

The proposed expressway is likely to have four to six lanes and will traverse through Hassan, further enhancing the region’s transport infrastructure. With the opening of the proposed project, traffic congestion in the region will be alleviated to a great extent.

Once completed, this high-speed corridor is set to transform the commuting experience, boosting economic growth and connectivity across the state.
