PM Modi Begins 3-Nation Visit To Nigeria, Brazil, Guyana | Check Full Schedule

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his six-nation visit on November 16, 2024. The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Brazil, Nigeria and Guyana from November 16 to 21. Prime Minister Modi will visit Brazil for the G20 Summit, and to strengthen bilateral ties with Nigeria and Guyana.

PM Modi’s 2-day visit to Nigeria, starting November 16, will mark first visit by any Indian Prime Minister in the last 17 years. PM Modi’s is visiting Nigeria following th invitation by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

What’s on Agenda?

During his visit, the Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral talks to assess the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria and discuss further avenues to enhance the ties. The BJP leader will also address a gathering of the Indian diaspora in Nigeria.

India and Nigeria have been carrying forward their strategic partnership since 2007 with growing economic, energy and defence collaboration. Over 200 Indian firms have invested over $27 billion in important sectors in the African nation. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that India and Nigeria also share a strong development cooperation partnership.

PM Modi to Attend G20 Summit in Brazil

After Nigeria, the PM will depart for 2-day visit to Rio De Janeiro on November 18. In Rio De Janeiro, he will attend the G20 Summit hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Notably, India is part of the G20 Troika along with Brazil and South Africa and has been actively participating to the ongoing G20 Summit discussions, the MEA said. During the Summit, the Prime Minister will also put forward India’s views on various key issues that are global in nature.

PM Modi is likely to meet several leaders on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil.

At the invitation of Guyana President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the PM Modi will begin his visit to the South American nation on November 19. PM Modi’s Guyana visit will mark the first visit by any Indian PM since 1968. Previously in 2023, President Ali arrived in India as the Chief Guest at the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Indore in Madhya Pradesh where he received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman.

During his visit, PM Modi will call on President Ali, meet other senior leaders of Guyana, address the Parliament of Guyana and a gathering of the Indian community.

In Guyana’s Georgetown, the Prime Minister will also participate in the Second CARICOM-India Summit and hold meetings with leaders of CARICOM member countries to boost India’s long-standing friendship with the region, the MEA said.
