It is rare to see Team India lose at home, but that has happened and hence a lot of credit needs to be given to the NZ side. The New Zealand side beat India in Bengaluru in the first Test and then backed it up with another famous win at Pune to seal the three-match series. Now, the NZ side on the verge of inflicting a whitewash on hosts India. While it is an unheard of feat, it is on the cards for sure. To put a few numbers in perspective, India have not lost a bilateral Test series at home for 12 years which featured 18 series at home. Now, the Rohit Sharma -led side, having conceded this proud feat, could protect another feat which has not happened for the past 24 years. India can avoid an embarrassing whitewash.

When Was India Last Whitewashed in a Test series at Home?

India was last whitewashed in a Test series at home was way back in February-March 2000. Back then, South Africa hammered India 2-0 in a bilateral Test series. India lost the opening Test by four wickets at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Despite being on the losing side, Sachin Tendulkar was awarded the Player of the Match award for scoring a brilliant 97 runs in the first innings and ended with figures of 5-1-10-3. After the Mumbai game, the team went to M. Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru where they lost the game by an innings and 71 runs.

Can NZ Whitewash India? 

The possibility of it happening is high. NZ have got a hang of the Indian conditions and their spinners are doing really well. They also have momentum on their side which always helps.
