Dhawan emphasized that wins and losses are an inherent part of the game and dwelling on them is unfair.

Shikhar Dhawan backs Rohit Sharma

Shikhar Dhawan’s comments come after India’s humiliating defeat in the second Test match against New Zealand in Pune, which resulted in the team losing its first home Test series in 12 years. The loss sparked criticism from various quarters, with many questioning Rohit Sharma’s leadership and the team’s performance.

“The pressure you all talk about isn’t something we feel. While there is pressure in the game, we don’t dwell on losses or wins; that’s part of the game. I feel that’s neither a fair nor a practical approach toward anything,” Dhawan said while speaking to India Today.

Shikhar Dhawan, who has shared a successful opening partnership with Rohit Sharma in white-ball formats for India, praised his captaincy skills and leadership qualities. “As a cricketer, we don’t think that way. And Rohit is a great leader; it’s not just about winning and losing. There’s a bond, the team’s connection with its leader, and how much they look up to him,” Dhawan added.

The third Test match between India and New Zealand is scheduled to be held in Mumbai from November 1 to 5. Following the Tests against New Zealand, India will lock horns against South Africa in a T20I series. Most of the senior players who have not retired from the format and are also part of the Test team will be given rest as there is an important five-match red-ball series coming up against Australia.
